A comprehensive range for our customers

As a consultancy, PTA GmbH offers a wide range of services that essentially deal with project business in organizational matters and information technology. The foundation for successful project work involves a combination of established and innovative process models for the various project types, standardized methods for the individuals phases of the software development process, and experience with the tools used on the market and by our customers.


This range of services is enhanced by our collaboration in international rollout projects, as well as coaching services and training courses. As such, we can meet global requirements at any time, particularly for our internationally active customers.



We always use the most suitable methods to achieve project goals in our software development projects, and we choose those methods using our tried-and-tested process models. We keep constant track of current developments in information technology and integrate these into the PTA method concept.


On the basis of PTA project experience, historical trends were actively included, from standardized programming, through structured software development (SA/SD), to object orientation (OOA/OOD) and iterative or agile methods.


Our customer orientation gives us a wide range of knowledge and experience of development tools for the various phases of software engineering.


In addition to tools for analysis and design tasks, and using programming tools in a wide variety of development environments, we also use CASE tools from leading manufacturers.


We have also introduced intensive training measures and project activities to meet the challenges posed by the radical changes in development environments, which have been driven by the open source community, on the one hand, and with big manufacturers like IBM, Microsoft and Oracle keeping up with their product developments, on the other.

Process models

We specified our process for IT projects early on in our comprehensive project manual. We use this process if the customer does not suggest a process model of their own. The PTA process model is wide enough to cover different project types in both individual development and in standard software selection and launch.


This basic model evolves in line with advances in information technology and in the ideas of standard software system manufacturers. For example, with the rise of object orientation in recent years, we included the OOSE model and the rational unified process (RUP) into the PTA method for individual development. Increasingly, scrum and agile methods are being used in projects.


In the ERP area, manufacturer proposals Baan Target and ASAP have been simplified and used for standard software launch. In the context of CRM projects, an iterative process model is also used in order to include technological enhancements.


Given our objective of providing all-round support to our customers, we of course also offer services in the field of standard software. This can involve either industry software or classic ERP systems, or ERP II. When it comes to selecting software, we can generally apply our specialist knowledge of the customer's business processes to provide expert advice on the basis of our systematic method.


When it comes to the launch, specialists will be there to help you – experts in the market leader SAP's modules (R/3, mySAP, SAP ERP) and the most important competitors (e.g. Baan). They will implement these modules using practical and tried-and-tested methods based on the ASAP and Baan Target manufacturer proposals.


We also have in-depth experience of migrating from predecessor versions (e.g. SAP R/2 and R/3) and of implementing release upgrades. This experience is particularly useful if you want to reuse modifications and process improvements.


Individual software

The most important business segment in our more than 45 years of history is developing software systems on the basis of our customers' requirements. The basis of this is an in-depth knowledge of our customers' business processes and our ability to implement the associated requirements in applications.


On the basis of tried-and-tested process models, we use the modeling and development tools agreed for each environment to design and develop user-friendly application systems. In order to carry out these tasks expertly and reliably, we cover a wide range of the programming languages, database systems, system software, operating systems and related middleware products used on the IT market.


Industry systems

In addition to ERP and CRM projects, we specialize in selected industry systems. We not only provide support in launching and further developing standard products, we also serve selected manufacturers as a subcontractor for requirement analysis and development and testing activities. Our current focuses are on products for energy management, trade, health care and laboratory systems.



Besides project business and ongoing support and maintenance tasks, which we have been privileged to carry out for our customers on a long-term basis, we also offer our knowledge and experience in the form of consultancy work.


Due to PTA GmbH's functional orientation, this work is mostly of an organizational nature and involves preparations for IT projects or specific tasks within information management. In addition, of course, the scientific, specialist know-how that our employees have gained during their training and when working on-site for customers, always provide new starting points for successful consulting projects.

The specialist knowledge that our employees have gained in their training and in their daily work provides a sound basis for developing detailed specifications and data processing concepts for a wide range of organizational, commercial and technical tasks in our customer projects.


Our method for design tasks is shaped by advances in information technology. After batch-oriented processes, which were often mapped using program flow charts, we have now developed our own mapping forms for dialog flows by using dialog flow charts to design user interfaces.


We use our own, practically oriented display forms for designing business processes, based on the eEPK model, which was developed by Prof. Scheer and distributed by SAP AG. These display forms have proven particularly useful for coordinating with users. Of course, we have also brought our knowledge of BPMN 2.0 up to date and now offer it in a consulting service for business processes.


With the rise of object orientation, PTA GmbH has also started using new methods and tools in the area of individual software, with a particular focus on using UML as the standard and mapping processes with use cases.


In addition to designing business processes and the supporting application systems, we also implement the concepts that are developed. Thanks to our philosophy, our employees are also trained to carry out the implementation.


As such, we cover the entire spectrum of IT project work:

  • Implementing individual systems,
  • Dialog and batch programs ("old world"),
  • Client/server environments,
  • Multi-tier architecture,
  • Web services,
  • Customizing and enhancement of standard software systems,
  • Implementing interfaces/integrating applications systems (EAI) and
  • Performing module, integration and acceptance tests.

Our employees have performed maintenance and support tasks in a range of customer assignments, which often run for several years. These involve working with standard software systems and our customers' in-house developments. In the standard software area, we are looking at ERP systems (e.g. from SAP or Baan) and CRM applications; in the individual software area, this involves various development environments on different platforms.


We do not only provide maintenance and support work after successful project launches; we also provide it when our customers want to change from their existing support framework for reasons of cost, quality or availability. Naturally, we are willing to undertake re-engineering and restructuring work on the software in question and to create or revise the associated documentation.


Project management

Project management covers the fields of project planning, project monitoring and project controlling, which are necessary for successful processing of IT and organizational projects. We have therefore also documented our principles for project management in a separate manual, as a complement to our project manual.


In terms of the individual task areas in project management, we have drawn up proposals that are supported by means of tools we created in-house for project controlling, project documentation and quality management, for example.


Application lifecycle management

From our perspective as an IT service provider, we define application lifecycle management (ALM for short) as a methodical approach to integrated, structured and tool-supported processing of all activities within the software lifecycle. To achieve this, we make the most of the opportunities and tools available in the customer's environment, thereby guaranteeing fulfillment of the quality-related specifications.
